In my current project we have the requirement to deactivate Hyper-threading on some Azure VMs. There are some Azure VMs available without Hyper-threading which can be found on the Azure compute unit site where Microsoft published a table with VM SKUs sizes where the “vCPU: Core” give a hint about VMs which are not having HT integrated. But this sizes are very limited and we have some requirements from licensing side to disable Hyper-threading and there also some applications which have a better performance when HT is disabled.

Microsoft announced Azure Premium SSD v2 Disk Storage in preview – for me a big announcement this year
In the past, it was quite quiet about new features and announcements in the Azure IaaS space. Yes, sometimes there were new VM sizes with more cores or more RAM, but in general there were no surprising announcements last year. From my point of view, this has changed with MS Inspire, which is currently underway.
Microsoft announced, surprising from my point of view, a new Disk SKU for Azure VMs called Premium SSD v2 Disk. The last announcement in this area was 2019 with the introduction of Ultra Disks.

Speaking at Cloud Brew 2019 Mechelen Belgium
Some days ago I was really happy to receive my first Speaker invite to the Cloud Brew Conference in Belgium.
The Cloud Brew Conference is a great conference in the hearth of Belgium in Mechelen 30km north of Bruessel. The conference first start in 2013 with a great location, in a old brewery and still takes place there today.
With two full days of Azure experience with many international speakers from around the globe, it’s a must for Belgians and cloud folks with Azure focus. The agenda looks pretty good.

Azure File Sync – Fileshares bis 100TB möglich
DIe Microsoft Inspire fand letzte Woche statt und bereits im Vorfeld gab es einige Neuigkeiten zu verschiedenen Services. So wurde u.a. Azure Migrate als Public Preview vorgestellt, ein Assessment Tool für virtuelle Umgebungen (Hyper-V und VMware). Außerdem gab es ein neues Release zu Web Application Firewall/Gateway. Und natürlich einige Neuigkeiten zu Azure File Sync, die gerade im Hinblick auf Enterprise Unternehmen interessant sind. Diese werden in diesem Artikel vorgestellt.

Für Azure File Sync ist eine neue Agent Version verfügbar, die einige Interessante Funktionen mitbringt. Insbesondere der lang erwartete Support für Azure Fileshares <= 5TB wird nun integriert. Die Aktualisierung erfolgt Schrittweise, daher kann es etwas dauern, bis ihr von den Verbesserungen profitiert. Allerdings gibt es auch eine Möglichkeit, das ganze zu beschleunigen.

CDC-Germany Slides zu System Insights und Rückblick
Gestern Vormittag durfte ich zum ersten Mal auf der Cloud and Datacenter Conference (CDC-Germany) in Hanau eine Session halten. Die CDC ist eine der wenigen Konferenzen in Deutschland, die den Fokus auf On-Prem und Hybrid Cloud Szenarien legt und dadurch viele Kunden erreicht. Carsten und seine Frau haben eine tolle Konferenz gegründet, die jedes Jahr mehr Teilnehmer zählt. Dies liegt auch an den vielen hochkarätigen Sprechern, die Carsten für die Konferenz gewinnt.

Bereits seit vielen Jahren unterstützt Microsoft Non-profit Unternehmen mit verschiedene Services. Allerdings gibt es keine Landingpage auf der alle Informationen aufgelistet werden bzw. wenn ist diese nur schwer zu finden. Zusätzlich hatte ich heute mit einem Kunden Kontakt, der zwar als NGO eingestuft ist, aber nur die Office365 Benefits nutzt, da ihm das Azure Sponsoring

What a month, after I speak on Cloud Camp in Dublin last week, I have the pleasure to hold a session at the MCT Global Summit in Phantasialand Brühl near Cologne.
The MCT Global Summit is a one week conference and a place where a lots of Microsoft Trainer can be meet. So you have the chance to discuss your challenges and ideas with a lot of experts.
I have the pleasure to hold a session about Windows Admin Center – The nextgen Servermanagement on Tuesday and, a day later, a Session to Azure File Sync – Your Cloud Fileserver.

Gestern um 15 Uhr (MEZ) fand die Keynote der #MSIgnite in Orlando statt. Anschließend folgten einige Sessions und Ankündigungen zu Neuerungen in Azure, einige wurden im Vorfeld bereits erwartet andere waren überraschend. In diesem Beitrag werde ich euch einen kurzen Überblick über einige Neuigkeiten des 1. Tages vermitteln.

CIMLingen Sessioninhalte zu #AzureFileSync – Dein Cloud Fileserver
Am Samstag hatte ich das Vergnügen auf der diesjährigen CIMLingen eine Session zu AzureFileSync zu halten.
Die CIMLingen ist in den letzten Jahren ein regelmäßiger Termin in meinem Kalender und um so schöner ist es, wenn ich als Speaker einen Teil zur Community beitragen darf.
Mir hat die Session großen Spaß gemacht und auch wenn ich dieses Jahr nur kurz bleiben konnte, so freue ich mich bereits auf die Jubiläums- CIM im nächsten Jahr.
